Introduction
The colour codes are command codes which will change the colour of your written foreground text. The background of a text can not be changed.
$000-$fff
The colour codes used in Trackmania are a 3-digit RGB hexadecimal value.
RGB means that every colour you want is actually made of 3 components: Red,Green and Blue.
For any of the 3 components you can enter values from 0-9 and A-F (equals 16 values (=hexadecimal), from 0 beeing the "darkest" value to F beeing the "most intense" value of a component...
Theoretically you have 16*16*16 (4096) possibilities in Trackmania to mix the exact color you want, but you will never need that many. It's actually enough if you concentrate on a 3-stepping, 0,3,6,9,C and F .. with these values you will have 6*6*6 (216) colours available.
A few simple examples
$600: Red
medium dark

$000-$fff versus $000000-$ffffff
Maybe you are familiar with the "usual" notation of the RGB values from 0-255, which is represented by a 00-FF value (6-digit RGB with 16.8 million colours) ) for each component, instead of just 0-F (3-digit RGB with 4096 colours).
Don't let this irritate you.
The 3-digit RGB pretty much represents the so called "Web-smart" palette for web designers.
The 3-digit notation is just a "simplified" and not so detailed notation but it works the same way. Actually you can easily convert 3-digit to 6-digit in your mind, by using every value of the 3-digit twice...

They're used the same was as the text control codes, they're directly written within your text.

Trackmania Colour Chart (3-digit RGB Hexadecimal)
For simplicity reasons, this chart is reduced. To read a value properly, mark the text in the colour box you want.
